The Eltham Cemetery is a thoughtfully designed resting place that blends natural beauty with dignified interment options. It provides spaces for both traditional burials and the placement of cremated remains, all carefully integrated into its serene parkland surroundings. The grounds and all interment areas are cared for on an ongoing basis, preserving the landscape’s tranquillity and ensuring it remains a place of respect, reflection, and remembrance for generations to come.
Interment Opportunities: Burial
Rights of Interment – At-Need Basis
- All gravesite Rights of Interment are currently available on an at-need basis only. This means they are offered to families who require an immediate burial or interment of cremated remains.
- The Trust reserves the right to restrict the pre-purchase of Rights of Interment to ensure sufficient availability of at-need positions for immediate use.
- If your enquiry relates solely to the pre-purchase or reservation of a gravesite, the Trust does not currently have capacity to accommodate this. Lawn
Lawn burials offer a simple and elegant setting within a landscaped environment. Each gravesite includes a bronze plaque set flat on a base, ensuring a uniform appearance while allowing for personalised inscriptions. The parklike surroundings create a serene and contemplative space for families to visit and remember their loved ones.
Freestanding Headstone
Rich granite headstones stand in a traditional upright presentation within the landscaped lawn and gardens, offering a timeless and dignified tribute. Designed to endure, these memorials provide a lasting place of remembrance, harmonising with the natural beauty of the cemetery.
Constructed Headstone
Headstones are presented within bespoke structures, each thoughtfully designed to complement the cemetery’s natural setting. Different areas feature distinct styles—some set within rock, others in bluestone, and some within architectural structures featuring cascading Boston ivy and wisteria. These memorials maintain the elegance of a lawn grave while enhancing the surrounding landscape.
Monumental
A monumental gravesite features memorialisation that may cover the entire area of the plot (referred to as a full monument) or consist of a headstone with an accompanying base positioned at the head of the gravesite. Monuments are typically crafted from durable materials, such as granite. The design, including the choice of stone, colours, and inscription is decided by the family and stonemason, subject to Trust requirements and standards.
Vault
Vault burials provide a structurally reinforced burial option, where the coffin is placed within a pre-installed, lined, and sealed chamber. Vaults offer additional preservation compared to standard burials. Vault installation are managed by the Trust and accordingly memorialisation typically follows the style of either a constructed or freestanding headstone, ensuring a cohesive and dignified appearance within the cemetery landscape.
* Historical areas have no available Rights of Interment as at date of publishing, however:
- relinquished or historic tenure gravesites may become available from time to time OR
- minor/major development works may be undertaken to create additional positions.
These positions will be made available at the discretion of the Trust if they become available.
