The Trust advises that maintenance and improvement works to the lake and surrounding area will be occurring over the course of July to October 2020.
Robert Boyle Landscape Design have been appointed to carry out the works, are renowned local landscape designers and have carried out numerous projects at the Cemetery, including the original design and construction of the lake in 1993.
Project works will include:-
- Draining & cleaning out the lake, including the installation of a new liner
- Drainage works to capture excess water (underground & overground), to re-direct the water to enable irrigation throughout the Cemetery grounds
- Positioning additional boulders around the lake, providing more opportunities for memorials within this beautiful precinct
- Creating pathways around the perimeter of the lake for easy access to all memorials
- Designing & building a timber & steel footbridge across the lake. The balustrade across the bridge is designed to provide unique spaces for memorial plaques
- Designing & building a timber arbour which will provide a partially roofed space for families to take shelter & shade and to gather & relax
Design plans may be accessed pdf here (4.74 MB) and are also on display at the Cemetery.
The works will commence in mid July and will unfortunately equate to restriction of access to a small number of memorial sites for a short period of time during the project to ensure the safety of our staff, contractors and visitors. The team will be doing their best to work quickly and efficiently during to minimise disruption to visitors, but we would like to thank you in advance for your understanding during these works.
